According to Hinduisim Lord Krishna was born on the month of Bhadra at astami, so that day is celebrated hugely as Krishna Janmastami. The followers of hindusim use to make a statue of a lord Krishna and surround the city. At the devotees use to read "gita", the holy book in the temple of Krishna, on that day people use to organize a mela in patandarbar square. Thousand of devotees gather there to worship Lord Krishna.
According to Holy book, many years ago there was a very cruel king named kansa, At that time he was the most powerful king in the whole world. Even the god were afraid of him. To kill the king and return peace Lord bishnu took a incarnation as a human, as the 7th son of devki and basuki, sister of kansa and her husband. When kansa came to know that his sister's child will kill him then he decided to kill her but after her request he decided just imprisoned her and go on kill all the child as they born. But when the seventh child born all the guard fell asleep, the prison opened itself. Basuki took his son to gokul and exchanged with another as the wish of god and came back with next child.
When kansa tried to kill that child it turned into devi and said, "you will die and the one who will kill you has born" and disappeared. Kansa was too afraid and order to kill all the new born baby in his kingdom. But he was not able to kill Krishna. He tried many other attempt too to kill him but he didn't succed. And when he did a lot of tourtore to people Krishna killed him.
Lord Krishna killed the cruel king kansa, and reestablished peace and happiness in world. So, his birth day is celebrated as huge festival.
