Lord Buddha, known as "light of Asia" was born in Nepal. So Buddha Jayanti is celebrated with huge excitement. Lord buddha was born at Lumbini at Baishak on baisak purnima so that day is celebrated as a festival. Lord Buddha is known as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu so Buddha Jayanti is equally popular in Hindusim too.
On that day devotees use to organize a rally from the Buddha Bihar and spread the knowledge of Lord Buddha, on the birth place of Lord Buddha, Lumbini people use to worship to Lord Buddha with great excitement. Also at Shyambhu of Kathmandu it is worshiped hugely.
According to Hinduism Lord Buddha is the ninth incarnation of Lord bishnu on the earth. The main knowledge of the lord Buddha is, remove anger, selfishness, greed, gelious and spread love in the world. Lord Buddha's real name was Siddhartha. He was a prince of a kingdom but to remove the pain, sorrow of the people he left everything and started to meditate to know why all the sorrow exist in the world and how to remove it and he succeed.
